Non-toxic sunscreen

The first thing we all need in the summer is, of course, sunscreen. But at this point, we know not all sunscreen is equally non-toxic and environmentally friendly. A good choice for your face is cocokind’s sunscreen, and for your body, check out our curated list on our blog all about sunscreen.

Hat

Because sunscreen shouldn’t be your only means of protection from the sun’s intense rays, we love to have a cute hat with us. My favorite this summer is still a cute bucket hat. I’m a sucker for a cute one with a butterfly on it. I know basic, but I’m here for it.

Non-alcoholic drinks

Alcohol always seems to drain my energy the following day. So, if you want to avoid that hangover, blah-feeling, try drinking non-alcoholic beverages. At the pool? Try Recess, a sparkling water infused with hemp and adaptogens for calm and clarity. If you want a sip, use code “CADA15” for 15% OFF. Or you can check out our list of non-alcoholic mixologists and their recipes.

Bluetooth speaker

We love music. We love summer. And together, the party is anywhere we want it to be. Grab a speaker from House of Marley. Their speakers, including Bluetooth speakers, feature sustainably sourced materials engineered to bring out every detail in your music. So all you have to do is make a bomb playlist — a pinch of throwbacks, a few Bad Bunny songs, and a lot of Tik Tok hits. If you want a chill vibe, check out our CADA Summer playlist.

Reusable snack bag

It’s hot girl summer, not hangry girl summer. So we are bringing snacks to the beach. Store your fruit, chips, nuts, veggies, or whatever you like to snack on in a reusable snack bag from Package Free. They have a variety of sizes and canisters to choose from. Their mission is to support us on our journey with low-waste living.

Reusable water

We also have to stay hydrated! Whether you’re by the waves, hiking in the trees, or kayaking in the lake, don’t forget your reusable water bottle. And if you’re looking for a good filter for your tap water to refill your bottle with ease, try Pure Water Freedom

Card games

Every time I hang out with my friends, family, or myself, we always end up talking about astrology and the planets. So after learning about an astrology-based card game through TikTok, I knew I had to have it. You can play Sun Moon Rising on the beach, at a picnic, or even have a wine and card game kind of night — those are always fun. Although, any card game you play will always add some unique entertainment into the mix.

Summer fit

With BBQs and outdoor gatherings picking up, you’re going to need a cute summer fit to keep you cute and cool. If you don’t have one already, try picking a dress out at your local thrift shop. Or another option is shorts and a tee. Sustainably Found, a vintage shop dedicated to preloved, reworked clothing and accessories, has a unique variety available online for you to choose from.

Once you find pieces that you love to wear, try recycling clothes with your friends. Look through each other’s closets and do an exchange to keep your wardrobe fresh yet sustainable as ever.

Bug repellant

It’s summer; chances are you’re going to be outside more than in. You’re going to need bug repellant. Some people have the patience to make non-toxic, safe bug repellent, but that just isn’t me. I use Burt’s Bees Herbal Insect Repellent. It’s made with a natural blend of Rosemary, Lemongrass, Citronella Oil, and other essential oils. Other bug repellants you can try are Repel Plant-Based Lemon Eucalyptus and OFF! Botanicals — both of which are on EWG’s top choices.

Sunglasses

If you broke your last pair of shades, try getting a sustainable pair that are made to last a lifetime. Sunski makes their sunglasses with recycled materials, without plastic packaging, and are carbon neutral. The best part is that they have a lifetime warranty where they promise to fix them when they break for as long as you own them. Plus, when you purchase a pair of sunnies from Sunski they end up donating 1% of their profit for the planet.
