It’s so beautiful to see nature transform from brown to green. When the lovely scent of flowers and shade-powering leaves return, my soul feels happy and alive. And that’s no coincidence. Studies have discovered that houseplants promote positivity, creativity, and vitality.
With a few houseplants, let’s bring those feel-good vibes and mood-boosting energies indoors. Here are a few of my favorites that are absolutely amazing, inside and out:
Lavender: A plant that will for sure lift your spirits. Its calming scent relieves stress, soothes nerves, and promotes peaceful rest. Try placing it on your nightstand or somewhere near your bed.
Pothos: Brighten up your space with a flowy pothos. There are many varieties, including Golden, Marble Queen, and Pearl + Jade pothos. Pothos grow fast and are one of the best air purifiers. They remove toxins like formaldehyde, xylene, toluene, and benzene, which are commonly found in cleaning products, carpets, and plastics.
ZZ Plant: Are you still waiting to become a plant parent? A ZZ plant will be happy to be your first. It’s pretty easy-going, being that it can tolerate low-light and drought conditions. ZZ plants remove toxins like toluene and xylene — commonly used in paints, nail polish, and leather industries.
Aloe: The all-around powerful, antioxidant-rich succulent. Aloe is easy to grow and is a staple in many homes because of its healing properties. You can use it as a topical treatment for dry skin, acne, or sunburns. And if you just want it to sit on top of your dresser, that’s okay too because it’ll help remove toxins like benzene from the air.
Jasmine: Stimulate your mind and body with this white and green tropical flower. Jasmine smells lovely and is a great non-toxic alternative for air fresheners or candles.
Lift your spirits with even more air-purifying plants:

- Peace Lily
- Boston Fern
- Snake Plant
- Weeping Fig
- Ivy
- Rubber Plant
Florals: As flowers bloom, they infatuate our senses with new smells and colors. Creating a unique ambiance, sparking new ideas, and washing away dull, boring feelings. Florals come in many shapes, sizes, and colors, just like us. I adore petals with warm tones of orange, yellow, pink, and even white the most for summertime. It adds a beautiful pop of color to my spaces. Try channeling your inner creative self and decorate a flower arrangement that you can’t help but stare at. Daisies, lotuses, lilies, roses, peonies, and many more, the choice is yours.
For the most part, I buy my plants from a greenhouse near my home. The plants always seem much greener and healthier than the ones at the chain hardware stores. Plus, I get to support a locally-owned business; it’s a win-win. But if you don’t have that option, you can try one of these online stores solely for everything plants.
